The flag of Aberdeen, South Dakota, is a blue background with a yellow version of the city's seal in the center.
Community flag[]
The community flag of Aberdeen, South Dakota consists of 4 triangles of dark blue, blue and green, with a white saltire bordering them. A yellow starburst with a white fimbriation is in the center of the flag with a circle with 24 points inside of it.
The proposed flag was unveiled on June 19, 2020, and would be adopted on August 5, as a community flag. The flag with the seal remains as the official flag of the city.
Symbolism[]
The yellow star represents the sun; an integral part of growth and in agriculture, the green represents its' open spaces, the deep blue symbolizes the strength and prosperity of the city's education system, community, and business sector, the white cross symbolizes the city's rich city as a railroad hub, and as well as a tie-in with the city in Scotland of the same name, and the blue sky welcomes anyone to the city and a wealth of opportunity, and also mimics the same color of the South Dakota state flag.[1]
