The flag of the African National Congress, a South African political party, is a horizontal tricolor of black, green, and gold.
Ban on the flag[]
During the Apartheid era of South Africa, the National Party government classified the African National Congress as a terrorist group and banned it. Of course, insignia of the party was banned such as photos of leaders (a man was charged for having a coffee mug with Nelson Mandela’s face printed on it) or the party flag.
The ban was lifted in 1994 when the ANC was unbanned and allowed to participate in elections.
