The flag of Anaheim, California, is a white background with two blue bars and the words "CITY OF ANAHEIM" and "FOUNDED 1857" in black on the top and bottom, with the city's seal in the center.
Symbolism[]
The seal depicts the agricultural origins of Anaheim and Orange County that centered on Valencia oranges, walnuts, grapes, and lemons. The oil derricks represent industry; the San Gabriel Mountains are visible from many parts of the city. The city’s seal was adopted on 24 May 1960. The artwork is very reminiscent of a fruit box label.
2004 NAVA survey[]
The flag scored 2.56 / 137th out of 150 on the 2004 NAVA City Flag Survey, behind Charleston, and ahead of Maui County.
Former flag (2018-2019)[]
The former flag of Anaheim, California, is a blue background with a blue stripe splitting a circular stripe of six white stars, in the center. It was adopted on August 28, 2018, designed by Annie Choe, and relinquished on September 10, 2019.
Symbolism[]
The dark navy blue – “Anaheim blue,” represents Anaheim’s history since its incorporation in 1876. The light blue stripe represents the Santa Ana River, which is one of the city’s largest geographical features. Along with representing the council districts, the stars in the center are an homage to the American flag.[1]
2022 NAVA survey[]
The flag scored 7.13 / 28th out of 312, an A- on the 2022 NAVA City Flag Survey, behind Metairie, and ahead of Dodge City.
