The flag of the Army of Northern Virginia from the Confederate States of America, is made to resemble the flag of the Confederate States of America. The two flags are almost identical, other than the stars in the canton. The canton has 13 stars in both flags, but in the Army of Northern Virginia’s flag, they are not formed in a circle, yet more like a semi-circle.
The flag was made for Robert E. Lee, the commander of the army, hense the other name of the flag, “Robert E. Lee Headquarters Flag”. The flag was only flown during the duration of the Confederacy and is rarely flown anymore.
The battle flag of Northern Virginia is the most commonly mistaken flag for the real Confederate flag. This flag has the same colors and same stars from the United States flag. The battle flag was originally a square flag with a blue cross, white outline, and a red background.
