The selection of the Old Government House seems to show the appreciation and continuity of history in the municipality of Augusta. The stately, dignified structure is undoubtedly a source of pride in Augusta. The year 1736 marks the founding of the city.

Second flag (1986-2000)[]
The second flag of Augusta, Georgia, is divided between white with (what was once) the city's seal, and red with a blue cross and thirteen stars. Its' proportions were 3:5, was adopted in May 6, 1986, and lasted up until December 5, 2000, after the city's commissioners decided it was time to have a "new" flag.
First flag (1939-1986)[]
The first flag is the same as the second flag, but with darkened colors and without the white panel. It was adopted in 1939, and lasted up until 1986, when the mayor requested to add the white panel.
