The civil flag of Baden-Württemberg, a federal land of Germany, is a horizontal bicolour of black (upper stripe) and gold.
Symbolism[]
According to the German heraldic tradition, the colours of the flag reflect the colours of the coat of arms.
The black represents Württemberg and Hohenzollern, and the gold represents Baden (Baden, Württemberg-Hohenzollern, and Württemberg-Baden merged to form Baden-Württemberg in 1952).[2]
Trivia[]
- If this flag was turned upside-down, it would look like the flag of Saxony-Anhalt, which is also in Germany.
