The flag of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a red background with a shield in the bottom left corner which contains a fleur-de-lis, a castle from the Flag of Castile, and the 1606 Union Jack, with the words "Baton Rouge", in white, in a cursive font, on the canton and fly.

Symbolism[]

The red color represents the red-colored poles made by Native Americans along the Mississippi River from which the city's name is derived. The crest on the lower left uses the red, white and blue, representing the colors of the United States. The fleur-de-lis representing France, the castle representing Spain, and the Union Jack, United Kingdom.

The coat of arms encompasses the emblems of the three European countries who've occupied Baton Rouge.[1]
