The flag of Bedfordshire was adopted and registered with the Flag Institute on 11 September 2014 after a campaign lead by Bedfordshire local Luke Blackstaffe. It is a banner of arms.
The flag features three white shells in a vertical black field with white and blue waves each side, seperating a red and yellow quartered field.
Symbolism[]
The three white shells, or escallops, on a black field are taken from the coat of arms of the Russells, Dukes of Bedford. The red and yellow quartered field derives from the coat of arms of the Beauchamps, the leading family in the county after the Norman Conquest of England. The blue and white waves represent the River Ouse that flows through the county.
