The flag of Botswana consists of a light blue background, with three horizontal stripes in the center of the flag (top to bottom: white, black, white). The white stripes are thinner than the black one.

The black and white stripes represent racial cooperation and equality, the light blue background represent the sky and water, which is a scarce and precious resource in the Kalahari Desert, which covers much of Botswana.[3]

The flag of the Botswana Defence Force, is the national flag of Botswana, with the national colours swapped for a green field under a red stripe. A variant of the defence force's emblem is in the center of the flag. The ensign of the Defence Force Air Wing, removes the defence force's coat of arms.
