The unofficial flag of the Chatham Islands is a blue background with a sun rising over a map of the island.

Symbolism[]

Blue represents the South Pacific Ocean, yellow represents the sun, and green represents the islands' foliage. A map of the Chatham Islands in green is depicted on the flag, with the Te Whanga Lagoon in white.

History[]

The flag was designed in 1989 by Logan Alderson, a former New Zealand police officer.[1][2]

Chatham Islands (variant)

Chatham Islands has a variant flag with a blue background, the same yellow sun, a map of all of the islands, and a white or light blue map representing the lagoon. This version of the flag is more commonly seen used by the government.[2]
