The flag of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands was adopted in 2004, its consists of a palm tree on a gold disc in the canton, a gold crescent in the centre of the flag and a gold southern cross in the fly.
Symbolism[]
Although not featured in Australia's flag, green and gold are the official colors of Australia.
The palm tree represents the island's tropical flora. The crescent represents Islam (as it is the religion of the Cocos Malays, who make up a majority of the population), and lastly, the Southern Cross is shown as Cocos is located in the Southern Hemisphere, where the Southern Cross is located.[1]
