- For the historic county, see Cumberland.
The unofficial flag of Cumbria represents the county of Cumbria in Northern England. It was adopted in 1974 and is used by the County Council.
Its design features six chevrons, two of which are green and are on a yellow field, two of which are white and are on a blue field, and two of which are half white and half blue which are on a half green and half yellow field. These are surrounded by a forest green border which contains three white roses and three white cinquefoils.
Community flag[]
On 24 March 2025, it was announced that a competition would be held to design a community flag for Cumbria. The competition opened that day, and ended on 25 April. The competition was run by The Lord-Lieutenant and the High Sheriff of Cumbria, with support from the Cumberland Council, Westmorland and Furness Council, Carlisle Cathedral, the University of Cumbria, and the Flag Institute. A panel of judges then selected a shortlist of designs. All shortlisted designs were professionally redrawn to ensure a consistent look. The winning flag will be registered with the Flag Institute's UK Flag Registry.[1] The finalists were revealed on 18 June. Public voting opened on 20 June, and will close on 13 July. The winner will be revealed at a special ceremony at Carlisle Cathedral in the autumn.[2]
Below are the six finalist designs that were chosen.
