The flag of Durazno Department, Uruguay, uses a blue background. It has 18 6-pointed stars arranged in a circle, rotated to resemble more like a circle and a large 12- pointed star in the middle of the other stars and the flag. The two celestial strips start at the right hand side, then run through the star, getting thinner and eventually meeting on the left hand side.

The flag was designed by the architect Andrés Martínez Bruno, who won a contest in which 248 other projects participated. It was first hoisted on October 12, 2000, the day on which the 179th anniversary of the founding of the city of Durazno, capital of the department, was commemorated.

Symbolism[]

The 18 stars that form a circle represents the 18 other departments in Uruguay and the 12 pointed star in the centre of it symbolises Durazno Department, located in the centre of Uruguay. The 2 light blue lines that run through the stars represents the Yí river and the Negro river, which surround the department.
