Symbolism[]
The flag of the United Kingdom represents that the Falkland Islands is a British territory. The ship represents the ship Desire in which John Davis is reputed to have sighted the Falkland Islands in 1592, the motto on the bottom "Desire the Right" is also a reference to the ship. The ram is a reference to the islands' sheep farming, which was the main economic activity on the island, and the grass represents the most native vegetation on the island, the tussock of the grass.[1]
