The former flag of Garland, Texas, is a blue background with a yellow border. On the center is a yellow-fimbriated blue circle, with the state outline of Texas, a big "G" with "CITY OF GARLAND" written on its' top, "TEXAS" on its' bottom, and a blue-fimbriated yellow star.

Symbolism[]

The two shades of blue and metallic gold are the official colors of the city. The large “G”, of course, is the initial letter of the city’s name, and the star, aside from denoting the geographic location of the city, suggests the nickname of Texas, “The Lone Star State”.

2004 NAVA survey[]

The flag scored 3.79 / 86th out of 150 on the 2004 NAVA City Flag Survey, behind Columbia, and tied between Jersey City and Lincoln.

Logo flag[]

Garland (logo flag)

The alternative flag is a horizontal tribar of red, white, and blue stripes, with what was the city's logo in blue and red. It was adopted in January 1994 apparently in an effort to present a more modern image, and it is seen more than the official flag itself. This is a common trend that happened in cities like Grand Rapids, Rochester (NY), etc.
