The third flag of Georgia was created by now-deceased architect Cecil Alexander, in which former Georgia governor Roy Barnes responsed to an ongoind demand to replace the previous conteoversial confederate battle flag. Though, this third flag was proven to be highly controversial itself.
In a 2001 survey conducted by North American Vexillological Association, this flag was ranked by far the worst in the country because it "violates all the principles of good flag design." In 2003 it was replaced with the current flag of Georgia.
Below are five flags in the banner titled Georgia's History:
- The Betsy Ross Flag, which symbolizes the fact the Georgia is one of America's 13 original colonies.
- The unofficial state flag of Georgia before 1789.
- Georgia's flag from 1920.
- Georgia's flag from 1956. This features the Confederacy battle flag, which symbolizes the fact the Georgia is a member of the Confederate States of America.
- The current Flag of the United States.
