The flag of the German Empire is a horizontal tricolor of black, white, and red. The flag was first used as the flag of the North German Confederation, which was formed in 1867. The flag was relinquished after the foundation of the Weimar Republic, but was later reinstated during the Nazi regime with a ratio of 3:5 as a co-official from 1933 to 1935.
