The flag of Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia, is an uneven horizontal tricolor of yellow on the top and bottom and black in the center, with the city’s coat of arms placed in the center, black stripe.

The flag was officially adopted on June 16, 1975, and was designed by the City of Herne.

The colors yellow and black originate from the city’s coat of arms. The coat of arms were adopted after 1968, and feature a yellow shield with a black horse and tools in the top right corner.
