The flag of Hong Kong has a red background with a flower in the center. Each petal has a red five-pointed star.
The original design was unveiled on 4 April 1990 at Third Session of the Seventh National People's Congress.[3][4] The current design was approved on 10 August 1996 at the Fourth Plenum of the Preparatory Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Symbolism[]
The flower on the flag is a Bauhinia × blakeana, which is a national emblem in Hong Kong. The red background and stars show China's control over Hong Kong.[5]
