Second Flag (2004-2022)[]

Huntington (2004-2021)

The second flag of Huntington, West Virginia, is, (which was once) the city's seal in the center of a white background. The seal consists of 3 blocks that look like buildings next to a mountain-like shape over a bridge like shape and under a body of water, with the words "CITY OF" and "HUNTINGTON" separated by two dots.

Symbolism[]

The bridge-like pattern is the East Huntington Bridge, which connected the city to Proctorville, Ohio. The mountains symbolize the Appalachians as well as its' park system, the skyscrapers represent the progress of the city, and the three lines represent the Ohio River.[1]

First flag (1976-2004)[]

Huntington (until 2004)

The first flag of Huntington, West Virginia, is a white background, with the word "Huntington" separating a green gear. In its' right and left are the words "1871", and "WEST VIRGINIA" in black. On the bottom of the gear, is another small gear, with red, white, and blue shapes coming out from the gear. In the bottom is the word "GEARED FOR PROGRESS". The flag was adopted on November 5, 1976.

Symbolism[]

The gears and motto, “Geared for Progress”, are meant to show that Huntington is a thriving city commercially. The city was incorporated in 1871.[2]
