The flag of Iowa is the flag of France, but the blue and red stripes are half the width of the middle white stripe. In the white stripe is a stylized flying eagle, holding a stylized blue banner in its beak, with the words "OUR LIBERTIES WE PRIZE AND OUR RIGHTS WE WILL MAINTAIN". Underneath the eagle and banner is the word "IOWA" in red.
Symbolism[]
The colors and stripes in the style of the French flag - blue, white, and red - represent the fact that Iowa was a part of the French Louisiana. They are also the same colors of the United States flag. The eagle and banner are taken from the state seal of Iowa.
