The flag of Jefferson City, Missouri, is a horizontal bicolor of red and blue with a big outline of Missouri in the center split by 5 blue and white wavy stripes. In the center is a red circle with a capitol dome surrounded by a blue circle with 24 stars, and the word "Jefferson City" on the top, and the word "Missouri" on the bottom.

Symbolism[]

The red, white, and blue tricolor is inspired from the flags of Missouri and the United States. The dome of the state capitol identifies Jefferson City as the capital of Missouri. The 24 stars on the blue ring represent Missouri’s rank as the twenty-fourth state to join the Union. The wavy blue and white stripes symbolize the Missouri River.[1]

2004 NAVA survey[]

The flag scored 4.36 / 63rd out of 150 on the 2004 NAVA City Flag Survey, behind Austin, and ahead of Concord.

Flag redesign[]

Jefferson City (proposed flag design)

The design that was presented to the City Council.

On April 1, 2025, the city announced that it was launching a City Flag Redesign Contest, with students from Nichols Career Center having designed potential new flags for Jefferson City, incorporating elements that reflect the city's history, landscape, culture, and future. Voting opened on April 10 and ended on April 21, and was available to the city's residents.[2] A new flag design was presented to the City Council on May 5 for final approval and, if adopted, will become the city's new flag.[3]
