The flag of Ketchikan, Alaska, has a plain dark green background. In the center is a painting of a salmon with the words circling it, “KETCHIKAN”, and below, “ALASKA”.

Symbolism[]

The flag represents how Ketchikan is the “salmon capital” of the world. The colors are likely to represent the rich, green area of the oceanside town.

History[]

At the Ketchikan City Council meeting of December 16, 1999, the design of Daniel Sheets was adopted, in its adapted form, as the official flag of the City of Ketchikan as detailed in the December 10, 1999 correspondence of the Ketchikan Centennial Committee. The flag was chosen after a competition for the design of a city flag.
