The flag of Liberia consists of 11 equal horizontal stripes alternating red and white from the top, and a blue square canton the height of the first 5 stripes. In the center of the blue square is a white five-pointed star facing upward.
Symbolism[]
The US Flag was a basis for this design, the number of stripes has been reduced to 11 referring to the 11 men who signed the Liberian Declaration of Independence. The red and white symbolize courage and moral excellence, and the white star represents the first independent republic in Africa, above the blue square representing the African continent.
