The flag of Los Angeles, California, consists of three vertical zigzagged stripes of green, gold and red.

The flag was designed by Roy E. Silent and E.S. Jones in 1931 for the Los Angeles sesquicentennial.

Symbolism[]

In the seal of Los Angeles, four flag/arms symbols are represented as Los Angeles' location state and country and historic/relation countries, from top-left to bottom-right:

  1. United States of America
  2. California
  3. Mexico
  4. Spain

The colors represent olive trees (green), orange groves (gold) and vineyards (red). Green, gold/yellow, and red are some of the colors of the flags of Mexico and Spain, both of which are Los Angeles's relationship countries.

2004 NAVA survey[]

The flag scored 5.24 / 33rd out of 150 on the 2004 NAVA survey, behind Buffalo, and ahead of Albany.
