The flag of Malta is an equal vertical bicolor of white and red, with a stylized, red-outlined, representation of the George Cross in the canton.
Symbolism[]
The origin of the Maltese flag comes from the flag of the Knights Hospitaller of St. John of Jerusalem.
The George Cross that appears in the canton represents the George Cross that was awarded to Malta by George VI of the United Kingdom in 1942 for the heroism and the devotion of the people during World War II.[3]
