Former Flag of Mississippi
Mississippi
Adopted February 7, 1894
Designed by Mississippi State Legislature Flag Design Committee
Proportions 2:3[1]

The United States state of Mississippi currently has no official flag as its former flag was retired on June 30, 2020. Its former flag consisted of three equal horizontal stripes (blue, white, and red, from top to bottom), with the Confederate battle flag in the canton area of the flag, two stripes wide and two stripes long.

Symbolism

The flag's colors, red, white, and blue, represented the colors of the United States flag. The Confederate battle flag in the canton represented that Mississippi was a member of the Confederate States of America.

Trivia

  • The stripes on Mississippi's flag resemble the flags of Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) and the former Yugoslavia.
  • On June 28, 2020, the Mississippi State Legislature passed a bill to replace the flag. The bill was signed by the governor on June 30, 2020.
