The flag of Missouri is a horizontal tricolour of red, white, and blue, with a stylized representation of the Missouri state seal in the center of the flag, without the seal's border. Replacing the seal's border is a blue border thick enough containing an equally spaced ring of 24 white five-pointed stars, all facing outward, with the top star facing upright.

Symbolism[]

Red, white, and blue are the colours of the flag of the United States and France, symbolising Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon's famous Louisiana Purchase (Missouri was part of the deal). The Missouri state seal represents the state of Missouri. The stars on blue on the Missourian flag are similar to the stars on blue on the American flag. The 24 stars represent Missouri's statehood, ranked 24th chronologically.

Nickname[]

  • The Missouri Bears

Trivia[]

  • The stripes on Missouri's flag resemble the flags of the Netherlands (as plain), Croatia, and Paraguay.
