The flag of New Caledonia is a horizontal tricolor of blue, red and green, with a yellow circle, and inside it is a black Flèche faîtière perched on top of a roof. The flag was adopted proceeding the independence referendum in 2018 for France.
Symbolism[]
Blue represents the sea and the ocean surrounding New Caledonia. The red represents the bloodshed by the indigenous people who fought for freedom. The green symbolizes the land and New Caledonia's ancestors buried in it. The yellow disc represents the sun and the flèche faîtière represented the power of the Chiefs over their subjects.
