The flag of New York City, New York, is a vertical tricolor of blue, white, and orange, with the city seal in blue, in the center.
Symbolism[]
The colours of blue, white and orange are the colors of the Prince's Flag of the Netherlands, resembling the fact that New York City was originally founded by the Dutch. The bald eagle is the symbol of the United States of America, the Native American refers to the original inhabitants of the area, the seaman symbolizes the colonizers of the area, the 2 beavers symbolizes the Dutch West India Company, the windmill remembers the Dutch history of the city, the flour barrels refers that in the 17th century, New York had been granted a short-lived monopoly on milling, which established the fledgling colony as a commercial powerhouse.
