The flag of North Carolina is a horizontal bicolor (red and white) with a blue vertical stripe (at the hoist) the same size as the two horizontal stripes. There is a small, white five-pointed star in the center of the blue stripe, with a gold letter "N" to the left of it, and a gold letter "C" to the right. Above and below the "N★C" are two gold stylized banners with "MAY 20TH 1775" on the top banner, and "APRIL 12TH 1776" on the bottom banner (the lettering on both of the scrolls is black)

Symbolism[]

The letters N and C represents the first two letters in the name North Carolina. "MAY 20TH 1775" represents the date of the signing of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence: May 20, 1775. "APRIL 12TH 1776" represents the date of the adoption of the Halifax Resolves: April 12, 1776. [1]

Nickname[]

  • The NC Star

Trivia[]

  • If this flag was flipped vertically, it would almost resemble Texas's flag.
  • The red and white stripe on the flag resembles Indonesia or Monaco.
