The flag of North Carolina is a horizontal bicolor (red and white) with a blue vertical stripe (at the hoist) the same size as the two horizontal stripes. There is a small, white five-pointed star in the center of the blue stripe, with a gold letter "N" to the left of it, and a gold letter "C" to the right. Above and below the "N★C" are two gold stylized banners with "MAY 20^TH 1775" on the top banner, and "APRIL 12^TH 1776" on the bottom banner (the lettering on both of the scrolls is black)

Symbolism

The letters N and C represents the first two letters in the name North Carolina. "MAY 20^TH 1775" represents the date of the signing of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence: May 20, 1775. "APRIL 12^TH 1776" represents the date of the adoption of the Halifax Resolves: April 12, 1776.

• If this flag was flipped vertically, it would almost resemble Texas's flag.
• The red and white stripe on the flag resembles Indonesia or Monaco.
