The flag of North Newton, Kansas, is an unequal vertical bicolor of brown and orange, with eight off-centered sunflower petals of half gold on the brown part and half brown on the orange part.
Symbolism[]
The flag is inspired by the historical development of the prairie and the state of Kansas, known as the Sunflower State. The sunflower on the flag serves as a directional symbol and represents the state itself. The warm gold and brown colors represent the richness and warmth of Kansas's wheat fields, highlighting the region's strong agriculture heritage. The design also includes a symbol that serves a dual purpose: it resembles a compass rose or cardinal direction, and can also be interpreted as a sunflower. This symbol was chosen to honor the Mennonite immigrants who settled in the area.[1]
Flag contest[]
A flag contest was announced on July 15, 2024, with a deadline of August 2.[2] Voting was held from September 9-23, where residents could vote from 16 different flags. Flag #1 was declared the winner.
