The flag of Pakistan is green with a white vertical white stripe on the hoist. In the center of the green area is a white crescent facing towards the upper fly corner of the flag. Halfway in between the crescent and the upper fly corner is a white five-pointed star, also facing towards the upper fly.
Symbolism[]
Green and white and the cresent and the star are all symbols of the Muslim religion, which is the national religion of Pakistan. The white stripe also represents religious minorities in the country.
History[]
The flag of Pakistan is based on the flag of the Muslim League, the muslim political party of India. It was adopted in 1906 and its design was inspired by the (very similar) religious flag of the Ottoman Empire. They all show a white moon and crescent on a green background.
