The flag of Redding, California, is a blue background with half of an orange circle on the bottom, and a white shape on the bottom.

Symbolism[]

The blue in the top of the flag represents both the clear blue skies of Redding and the cool bodies of water such as Lake Shasta and Whiskeytown. The orange half-circle represents the scorching sun. The white shape depicts Sundial Bridge, which is located in the city.

Flag Redesign[]

A flag contest was created in March of 2017 to replace the former flag of Redding. The contest received 386 submissions from Shasta County residents. A panel of fifteen judges narrowed these down to five finalists, which were then presented for a public vote. Over 26,000 votes were cast, and the winning design was announced on Flag Day, June 14, 2017. The winner of the contest won $1,000.[1]

2022 NAVA survey[]

The flag scored 6.77 / 46th out of 312, an A- on the 2022 NAVA City Flag Survey, behind Orlando and ahead of Anthony.

Former flag (pre-2017)[]

The former flag of Redding is a blue background with the city's seal in the center. The picture on the seal consists of Shasta Dam and Shasta Lake in the foreground with Mount Shasta in the background.
