The flag of Reno, Nevada, is a blue background. In the center is an orange half of a circle with 3 triangles inside it, and 2 blue and white lines below it, with an 8-pointed star in the northwest corner.
Symbolism[]
The rich blue of the flag represents the state of Nevada. The silver represents the silver mining boom in the area, which ultimately led to the rise of the city of Reno itself. The blue triangles on the yellow circle is the Sierra mountains, which are both a landmark of Reno and a provider of natural resources to the area. They are outlined by the color gold, to represent the rich desert Reno calls home. The star in the corner is the star on top of the Reno arch, a symbol of Reno, unifying its residents under it.
2022 NAVA survey[]
The flag scored 7.80, was ranked 2nd out of 312, and got a grade of an A+ on the 2022 NAVA City Flag Survey, behind Tulsa and ahead of Salem.
Former flag (1959-2018)[]
Former flag (1959-2018)
The former flag consists of a blue background, a white outline of Nevada near the hoist, with a blue five-pointed star indicating the location of Reno in the state of Nevada. The words "RENO" in a large font are placed to the right of the Nevada outline.
Symbolism[]
The blue background is taken from the flag of Nevada, the city which Reno is located in. The five-pointed star is a symbol of the United States, and its position on the Nevada outline represents the location of Reno in the state of Nevada. The Nevada outline obviously represents the state of Nevada. Even more obviously, the word "RENO" represents Reno.
