The flag of Rhode Island has a white background with a stylized gold anchor in the center of the flag. Below the anchor is a blue stylized ribbon with the word "HOPE" in gold letters on it. Arranged equally in a circle, facing outward, are thirteen five-pointed gold-colored stars.
Symbolism[]
The thirteen stars in a circle was taken from the Betsy Ross flag, symbolizing the United States, and the fact that Rhode Island was the thirteenth state to enter the American Union. The anchor and "HOPE" are taken from the Bible:

"Hope" is also the state motto of Rhode Island. White and blue were two out of the three colors in the United States flag.
