The flag of the Sámi people, or the Sápmi consists of four unequal vertical stripes of red, green, yellow, and blue, with an off center ring split into two colors: blue on the left and red on the right.
Symbolism[]
The four colors have been known as "the Sámi national colors" and are taken from traditional Sámi clothing.[1] Theblue side of the ring represents the moon, while the red side represents the sun. The ring also represents unity.
History[]
The previous flag was nearly identical to the current one, except for the lack of a ring and a green stripe.
