The flag of Saint Marys, Pennsylvania, are four quarters of blue with a white elk (two each), and the Bavarian flag (two each), with a gold border. On the center, is a gold-outlined red keystone shape, with a white mary symbol and "1842" in white inside. The keystone shape is surrounded by a wheat wreath, and a crown on top.

Symbolism[]

The blue quarter fields represent the blue field of the Pennsylvania flag, as well as the blue union of Old Glory, the Bavarian flag represents Bavaria itself, represents the fatherland of the city's founders and symbol of its origin, the elk is a "woodland elk", which symbolizes the city's citizenship in Elk County, and represents the untamed wilderness its forefathers encountered and endured upon arrival, the wheat and hops represent the community's rich German brewing legacy, the Keystone is a historical symbol of Pennsylvania, known as "the Keystone State", the Crown is a symbol of St. Mary, queen of Heaven and Earth, 1842 is the year St. Marys (Marienstadt) was founded, the symbol in the center is the historical symbol of the city's patroness, St. Mary, which is the community's namesake, and the red color completes a patriotic color scheme representing the city's citizenship in the Nation.[1]

2022 NAVA survey[]

The flag reached 108th out of 312 on the 2022 NAVA City Flag Survey, with a score of 4.72 / a C, behind Manitou Springs, and ahead of Lindsborg.
