The flag of Shreveport, Louisiana, is vertical tricolor of blue, white, and yellow, with the city's coat of arms in the center.
Symbolism[]
The colors of the tribar are said to represent the three nations that had owned Louisiana: France (blue), United States (white), and Spain (yellow). The coat of arms consist of:
- 18 yellow stars in the blue area of the coat of arms - symbolize Louisiana as the eighteenth state to join the Union[1]
- Three magnolia blossoms on a diagonal red stripe - represent Shreveport as the center of the tri-state area known as Ark-La-Tex[1]
- Twelve white stars embroidered in black - comes from the arms of the Shreve family, in honor of Captain Henry Miller Shreve, the city’s founder[1]
- Two cotton leaves at both sides of the coat of arms - Shreveport’s importance in the cotton industry[1]
- A pelican perched on top - Louisiana’s state bird[1]
2004 NAVA survey[]
The flag scored 4.74 / 48th out of 150 on the 2004 NAVA City Flag Survey, tied with Oakland, and ahead of Fort Smith.
