The flag of South Carolina is blue with a white stylized palmetto tree in the center of the flag, and a white crescent in the canton facing the upper hoist.
Symbolism[]
The flag is based on a historic South Carolinian Civil War flag. Also, the palmetto represents the state nickname of South Carolina, "The Palmetto State".
Red variant[]
The red version of the flag, nicknamed "Big Red", is used for the Citadel military school in Charleston.
