South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands is a British overseas territory. The flag is a blue ensign with the coat of arms in the fly.
Symbolism[]
The flag of South Georgia is a blue ensign bearing the Union Jack in the canton and the coat of arms of South Georgia in the fly. the coat of arms consists of a sheild containing a lion holding a torch representing the United Kingdom and discovery. the shield background is blue and white estoiles coming from the coat of arms of James Cook, who discovered the island. its supporters are a fur seal and a macaroni penguin, the latter standing on ice and the former standing on mountains, which represent the ice and earth on the island. the crest is a reindeer, representing the 2 herds of reindeer in the area. it also has a moto in latin "Leo Terram Propriam Protegat" meaning "let the lion protect its own land"
