The flag of Sweden is blue with a yellow Scandinavian cross design. The thickness of the cross is 1 unit.
Symbolism[]
Most histories show the Swedish flag influenced by the flag of Denmark, the first official national flag in the world. [3]
History[]
The design of the flag has been discovered to be in use as early as the 1520s. The Swedish Flag Day is June 6, the anniversary of King Gustav I Vasa's reign's beginning.
During the union with Norway, the Sweden flag was a part of the Norway flag, seen as a smaller flag in the lower right square of the flag. It was however removed immediately after the breakup of the union in 1905.
Other flags[]
The war flag and naval ensign of Sweden is a blue swallowtail with a yellow Nordic cross that extends to the left side of the flag. The flag is also used as a naval jack.
The royal standard for kings and queens uses the naval ensign with a white square containing the greater coat of arms, while the royal standard for princes and princesses uses a smaller white square and lesser coat of arms.
