The flag of Syracuse consists of three triangles of light blue, white, and dark blue, with an orange six-pointed star inside the white triangle. The flag was designed by Eric Hart for the Syracuse Flag Initiative and is called the "First Light" flag. It was unveiled as the finalist of the initiative on June 14, 2023, and was unanimously adopted by the Syracuse Common Council a few days later on June 20 that same year.

Symbolism[]

The six-pointed star symbolizes the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee and the six historical names by which Syracuse has officially been known. The triangles represent the hills of Onondaga and the Onondaga Valley. The orange color symbolizes the sun and restoration. The azure blue color symbolizes Onondaga Lake and perseverance. The navy blue color symbolizes the hills of Onondaga and industriousness. The white color symbolizes salt, snow, and peace.
