The 1819-1820 flag of the United States had 21 five-pointed stars arranged with twelve on the bottom of the blue canton in a 2 star x 6 star gird, with a row of four stars above that, and a row of five stars on top.
Symbolism[]
The 21 stars in the canton represent the 21 states at that time. Illinois was the 21st state to gain statehood.
