The flag of Wilmington, Delaware, is a blue background with a yellow Scandinavian cross, similar to Sweden's flag design, with the city's seal in its' center.

Symbolism[]

The colours, borrowed from the Swedish flag represent Swedish colonization of the city along with parts of its' state, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. The seal shows Wilmington soon after its founding and suggests the milling and shipping industries that would become important in the city’s development.

2004 NAVA survey[]

The flag scored 4.88 on the 2004 NAVA City Flag Survey, behind Springfield, Illinois, and ahead of Nashville.
